Niche: E-Commerce – Coupon code website
This case study is of a long time client of mine that is operating a popular coupon code website which helps users to get better shopping deals and also educate them to be more conscious buyers in todays, E-Commerce era.
Before we started working together a few years ago, the site was getting around 40K organic visits a month in total. It’s worth mentioning that previously, an SEO agency was working on it, so some things have been done, but as it turned out, the full potential wasn’t properly identified and unleashed.
I got actively involved in the project and fast forward to today, nowadays, on average the traffic generated by SEO has more than tripled. Even though a lot has been done together, we’re still finding ways to make new improvements and stay on top of the game. When growing online, it’s important not to be complacent as it is an ever changing landscape.
Therefore, I want to share with you the result of year over year organic traffic growth that we’ve noted recently, after Google’s August 2023 Core update:

Clicks growth:
- As you can see on the screenshot, in the month of August in 2022, we’ve had 90,2K clicks coming to the website from Google.
- During the same month, but in 2023, we’ve managed to acquire 131K organic clicks from Google which translates to a 45% growth.
Impressions growth:
- When it comes to impressions in Google Search, the website have appeared in SERPs 4,25 million times in August of 2022.
- As of August of 2023, the site appeared 7,06 million times in Google’s SERPs. This gives a 66% growth in impressions.

Another interesting fact are traffic worth estimates noted in Ahrefs which is one of the most advanced SEO tools out there:

Under the „Organic search” column, in the traffic estimates, you can see information about its value, which is currently of a 85.8K US dollars monthly.
Given the fact that my SEO services are much more affordable that gives an idea on how much ROI, a long term strategy can bring as opposed to using the paid Ads.
What has been done to achieve these results?
- We consistently acquire new links to the website with the emphasis on their quality. When building a backlink, each time I make sure it’s coming from the website that is getting traffic from Google itself. You see, it’s easy to get „some links” but for a link building campaign to make sense and bring results, it has to be well thought out and hand picked.
- Moreover, we have increased the volume of the strongest type of link, meaning these coming from online publications in a topically relevant, high traffic websites.
- Each month, I plan new content that is aimed to educate consumers. I do an extensive keyword research to find topics that are useful to the target audience and at the same time, they have ranking potential and aren’t oversaturated by competition. This means I regularly research hundreds of topics, analyze them in SEO tools and pick the winning ones to write about. This in an essential step, because most of online business owners tend to write about whatever they come up, without looking into actual data or clue about the demand for a particular topic which leads to no results. Capitalizing on this fact, we’ve lately doubled the output of planned content.
- I closely work with Copywriters, to assure that the published content is of optimal quality for Search Engines. Each article is reviewed by me in terms of SEO before going live on a website. I help the content marketing team by providing feedback on what can be done better and what SEO elements to include when writing new posts.
- We work on a proper internal linking structure that helps users and Google as well. This element ensures that so-called “link juice” is flowing through important pages of the website. In general, it’s often overlooked by the site owners, yet it’s easy to implement and helps Search Engines to grasp which areas are the most important for you, therefore favor them. Internal linking is a strategy widely used by large websites, for example such as Wikipedia.
- We actively work on improving the technical side of the website and I consult the team’s new ideas and their potential SEO outcomes. Therefore, I oftentimes work with web developers, providing feedback and making sure that the changes that are being made, are optimal in terms of SEO. In general, there are some aspects of Search Engine Optimization that web developers oftentimes need help with. For example such things as structured data implementation, creating SEO friendly redirects, guidance on proper canonicalization, improving site’s indexation and many more. I’m experienced in working with IT professionals so working with tech team is not an issue.
