This case study is a very important one to me as it shows what can be reached with almost 5 years of consistency and dedication to doing quality SEO. A family-owned Toy Store reached out to me after one year of working with an agency which failed to deliver results. After looking into the reports, it was clear to me that this previous SEO company didn’t pick the right strategies. The site was left unoptimized, the backlinks were of subpar quality, and there was no solid content strategy in place that would deliver actual results. 

What’s worse, the previous SEO company forced the agreement to be at least 12 months long, which meant that the client had to pay even if he wasn’t satisfied with the services that he was getting. That’s why I always advise to look for SEO contracts that have one month termination period. This makes you safer, and it’s the solution that I offer. 

As a business owner myself, I truly felt that situation. I feel a strong sense of empathy towards family-owned businesses that want to grow online. This previous agency experience had to be truly discouraging for them, but I was happy that this company didn’t give up on SEO. 

We started to work together, month after month on improving SEO. We have begun in the beginning of 2018 and our cooperation lasted til the last day of December in 2022, which gives us five fruitful years.

First, lets look into the previous situation, meaning the agency SEO results achieved in 2017:

Now, let’s compare it with a level of Organic traffic coming solely from Search Engines in the following years of working with me:

First year:

In the first year, the number of Organic users reached 31,374, which gives us a growth of over 360%.

Second year:

SEO results in the second year of working together
In the second year, we’ve managed to get 176% more Organic users, which translates into +55,226 users year over year.

Third year:

This time, we’ve managed to get 197,133 Organic Users, which means that we’ve gotten +110,533 users year over year. This gives us 126% growth.

Fourth year:

In the fourth year, Google Analytics noted 520,506 users even though there’s been a tracking issue on a website, which meant that we’re missing data for about 1.5 month. However, even with available data that can be seen, we’ve managed to see tremendous growth. We’ve noted +323,373 Organic users year over year. The traffic more than doubled, with a growth rate of 164%. 

Fifth year:

In the fifth year, there was still significant growth. We’ve noted 880,642 Organic users (which translated to 1.1 Million sessions). This means the number of users on this E-Commerce website improved by +360,136 year over year, which is a growth rate of 69%.

As you can see, working together brought consistent results. When this online store reached out to me, they had 6,816 Organic users yearly. After 5 years, the final effect was 880 642 users, which means 129x growth of traffic coming from SEO

Services provided: 

  • I’ve crafted a dedicated SEO Strategy, did the competition research, assessed the strong and weak spots of the online store, picked the areas that we’ll work on and prioritized the crucial ones.
  • I’ve conducted a Technical SEO Audit that was almost 50 pages long. Audit covered on-page areas regarding the site structure, editorial elements, category optimization, website accessibility for crawlers, image usage, content duplication, redirect structure and much more
  • Because this store was operating on the Magento platform, I implemented most of the SEO optimizations myself. A client’s web developer handled some of the most complex, technical ones.
    In my career, I often worked with web developers and other IT specialists. Therefore I verified the developer’s work, provided feedback and made sure everything was implemented correctly. Therefore, we took care of a healthy foundation, meaning a website that is well-optimized, „Google-friendly”, and ready for the next steps.  
  • I put a high emphasis on smart Content Planning, which meant that every month, we have published new articles. Firstly, I’ve created SEO guidelines for the client’s Copywriters so that they know how to write texts that Google will love.
  • Secondly, every single month, I’ve created a new Content Plan. This is a crucial step. It’s very easy to come up with „some topics”, but it’s a surefire way to failure as your competition probably does exactly the same. The key is to plan the articles for the topics that are underserved yet popular, meaning you are getting a competitive edge. What’s more, every article was reviewed by me in terms of optimal SEO structure.
  • Every single month, I’ve acquired new and quality backlinks for this website. The links were coming from websites that were getting SEO traffic themselves and were topically relevant. Similar to content planning, it’s easy to get „some links”, but it’s crucial to get the ones that are actually valuable. The backlinks were well-diversified; they were coming from business directories, topical forums, blogs, articles, as well as those coming from partnerships with other brands.
  • Additionally to doing services on my end, Ive often worked on consulting with the goal of educating the client and its team in terms of SEO. It’s important for the team to be on the same page. Often, doing daily tasks in a slightly more thoughtful way (with SEO in mind) can yield better results.
